SUBADULT PLUMAGE BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON & JUVENILE BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, NAPLES BOTANICAL GARDEN, NAPLES, FLORIDA, 12/21/2024

The first photo shows a Black-crowned Night-Heron in subadult plumage, which means the bird is nearly adult in appearance, but shows traces of immaturity. In this case the traces of immaturity are the dull streaks on its underparts and elsewhere.  The second photo shows a juvenile Black-crowned Night-Heron.
Both the juvenile and subadult Black-Crowned Nigjt-Herons were seen and photographed just a few feet from each other in mangroves.
