MALE COZUMEL EMERALD, 1752 AVENIDA LICIENCIADO PEDRO JOAQUIN COLDWELL, COZUMEL, QUINTANA ROO, MEXICO, 12/10/2024 - NEW SPECIES TO LIFE LIST
We can ID this hummingbird as a male Cozumel Emerald as follows:
- It was identified as a Cozumel Emerald by Merlin photo ID.
- Bill is red with black tip.
- Emerald-green underparts (can't see upperparts).
- Long, deeply forked, dark blue tail
The Cozumel Emerald is endemic to the island of Cozumel off the coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. It is a new species to our ebird Photographic Life List.

We can ID this bird as a Cozumel Vireo as follows:
- Identified as a Cozumel Vireo by Merlin photo ID.
- Large white patch around eye which also extends from eye to bill.
- Two conspicuous white wingbars on darkish wings
- Brownish-gratish body with pinkish tones
The Cozumel Vireo is endemic to the island of Cozumel off the coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. It is a new species to our ebird Photographic Life List.
