WOOLY BEAR (WOOLY WORM) CATERPILLAR, TOMMY THOMPSON PARK, TORONTO, ONTARIO, 9/29/2024
The Woolly Bear or Woolly Worm caterpillar is the larva for the Isabella Tiger Moth. This caterpillar hibernates during the winter. Woolly Bears produce a kind of antifreeze that protects their organs and soft tissue, while the rest of its body freezes solid. They can survive extremely low temperatures, as low as -66 degrees Celsius.
