PEARLY--EYED THRASHER, COROSSOL, GUADALOUPE NATIONAL PARK, PETIT-BOURG, GUADALOUPE, OVERSEAS DEPARTMENT OF FRANCE, 3/13/2024
We can ID this bird as a Pearly-eyed Thrasher as follows:
- Brownish head with contrasting white,staring round eye.
- Large horn-colored bill.
- Whitish underparts with dark streaks.
- Brown/gray upper parts.

PURPLE-THROATED CARIB, COROSSOL, GUADALOUPE NATIONAL PARK, PETIT-BOURG, GUADALOUPE, OVERSEAS DEPARTMENT OF FRANCE, 3/13/2024
We can ID this hummingbird as a Purple-throated Carib as follows:
- Head, nape, back and what we can of the belly are black.
- Wings are iridescent turquoise.
- Bill is long and very down curved.
- Unfortunately we cannot see its throat.
The Purple-throated Carib is a Lesser Antillean endemic known to most islands.
The Purple-throated Carib is a new species to our eBird Photographic Life List. Our eBird Life List now stands at 1,123.
BRIDLED QUAIL-DOVE CROSSING A ROAD, COROSSOL, GUADALOUPE NATIONAL PARK, PETIT-BOURG, GUADALOUPE, OVERSEAS DEPARTMENT OF FRANCE, 3/13/2023
We can ID this bird as a Bridled Quail-dove as follows:
- Dark grayish head with reddish eyes
- Grayish-brown wings
- Thick, white and horizontal streak underneath the eye
- Bill is two toned: pink at the base and cream at the tip
- You can see iridescent green, blue and purple on the nape, neck-sides and upper back. This iridescence only shows in good light.
This quail-dove is found on most islands in the northern part of the Lesser Antilles, as far south as St Lucia.

BROWN TREMBLER, CASCADE AUX ECREVISSES, PETIT-BOURG, GUADALOUPE, OVERSEAS DEPARTMENT OF FRANCE, 3/13/2024
We can ID this bird as a Brown Trembler as follows:
- Overall brown with a gray-tinged head and gray shading on breast and wings
- Yellow-orange eye
- Long, black and slightly down curved bill
- Tail is cocked, which it often is
A Lesser Antillean endemic found on St Vincent, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Dominica, Montserrat, Barbuda, St Kitts & Nevis and Martinique.

SCALY-BREASTED THRASHER, CASCADE AUX ECREVISSES, PETIT-BOURG, GUADALOUPE, OVERSEAS DEPARTMENT OF FRANCE, 3/13/2024 - NEW SPECIES TO EBIRD LIFE LIST
Even though we did not get a good photo of this bird, between the two photos we did get, we can ID this bird as a Scaly-breasted Thrasher as follows:
- Brown upperparts
- Flanks are pale cream dappled with brown
- Pale eye (see second photo)
- Black bill (see first photo)
The Scaly-breasted Thrasher is endemic to the Lesser Antilles.
