FEMALE GOLDEN-CHEEKED WOODPECKER, RANCHITO RD, JALISCO, MEXICO, 12/15/2023 - NEW LIFE SPECIES

   We can ID this woodpecker as a female Golden-cheeked Woodpecker as follows:

• Grayish crown with yellow-gold nape and hindneck.
• Large black area surrounding the eye.
• Upperparts barred black and white.
• In the first photo you can just make out yellow-gold on the cheek.
• What you can see of the underparts are grayish.
• Long dark bill.

   The Golden-cheeked Woodpecker is a new species to our ebird Photographic Life List.  Our ebird Life List now stands at 1,090.

CITREOLINE TROGON, RANCHITO ROAD, JALISCO, MEXICO, 12/15/2023 - NEW LIFE SPECIES

   We can ID this trogon as a Citreoline Trogon as follows:

• Dark gray head, neck and upper breast with pale yellow eyes.
• Pale blue-gray bill.
• Whitish breast and separates the dark gray upper breast from the rest of the yellow underparts.
• Undertail is predominately white with dark gray tips.

   The Citreoline Trogon is a new species to our ebird Photographic Life List.  Our ebird Life List now stands at 1,089.
