ANTILLEAN PALM SWIFT, CARIBE DELUXE PRINCESS,, PUNTA CANA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, 6/11/2022
We can ID this swift as an Antillean Palm Swift as follows:
- Merlin identified the bird in both photos as an Antilllean Palm Swift
- Small size. Some of the swifts came close enough that we could estimate their size as being about 3-4" long
- Flying behavior: Very rapid and gliding between flapping spurts. Darted in and out of thatched roofs on buildings.
- Long length of wings compared to small body
- White belly
The Antilllean Palm Swift is a new species to our Photographic Life List. Our ebird Life List now stands at 1,074.
FEMALE HISPANIOLAN WOODPECKER, CARIBE DELUXE PRINCESS, PUNTA CANA, 6/11/2023 -
We can ID this woodpecker as a female Hispaniolan Woodpecker as follows:
- Red nape (this differentiates the female from the male, where the red extends into the crown)
- Gray cheeks
- White and black patches on neck next to red nape
- Yellow eye
- Back and wings are striped in black and gold
The Hispaniolan Woodpecker is a new species to our Photographic Life List. The ebird Life List now stands at 1,073.
PALMCHAT, CARIBE DELUXE PRINCESS, PUNTA CANA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, 6/8/2023 - NEW LIFE SPECIES
We can ID this bird as a Palmchat as follows:
- Small bird with long tail
- Pale yellow bill
- Underparts buffy cream with thick, dark brown streaks
- Reddish-brown eyes. You can just make out the color in both photos.
- Brownish upperparts, as much as you can see.
The Palmchat is a new species to our Photographic Life List. The ebird Life List now stands at 1,072.
