MALE & FEMALE LONG-TAILED DUCKS IN VARIOUS STAGES OF MOLTING FROM WINTER TO SUMMER PLUMAGE, ASHBRIDGE'S BAY PARK, TORONTO, ONTARIO, 5/5/2023
The male and female Long-tailed Ducks in these photos are all in various stages of molting from Winter to Summer plumages. This generally occurs during April-May. The males are in photos 1, 3,
4 upper right, 5 upper right and 6. The females are in photos 2, 4 lower left and 5 lower left.
The Long-tailed Duck is a true arctic species. It breeds in the tundra and taiga (boreal forest or snow forest) across the globe. It migrates to cold and temperate water coasts of North America, western Greenland, coastal Asia and the Great Lakes.
