GREEN HERONS INCUBATING THEIR EGGS, J N DING DARLING NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE, SANIBEL, FLORIDA, 4/6/2023

    When we first saw the Green Heron it was was not incubating its eggs, but was nearby.  Then a short time later it went to the nest and started to incubate its eggs. This is seen in the first 5 photos.  Later on, it left the nest again, but stayed nearby.  The sixth photo shows the four eggs in the nest after it left.  The last photo shows a second Green Heron, not too far from the first, incubating its eggs.

   We can't tell whether these Green Herons are male or female, as both parents incubate the eggs.
