BLACK-CRESTED COQUETTE, ARENAL OBSERVATORY LODGE, LA FORTUNA, ALAJUELA PROVINCE, COSTA RICA, 10/10/2022
We can ID this hummingbird as Black-crested Coquette as follows:
- Tiny and insect like
- Green upperparts with white rump band
- This is the only Coquette hummingbird to inhabit the Caribbean slopes of Central America
The Black-crested Coquette is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,063.
BRONZE-TAILED PLUMELETEER, ARENAL OBSERVATORY LODGE, LA FORTUNA, ALAJUELA PROVINCE, COSTA RICA, 10/10/2022 - NEW SPECIES # 1,062 TO LIFE LIST
We can ID this hummingbird as a male Bronze-tailed Plumeleteer (Red-footed Plumeleteer) follows:
- Pinkish-red feet
- Pinkish lower mandible and dark upper mandible
- Glittering green head and breast
- The subspecies in Costa Rica and Nicaragua does not actually have a bronze tail, which is why it is sometimes called a Red-footed Plumeleteer.
The Bronze-tailed Plumeleteer is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,062.
MALE BLUE-THROATED GOLDENTAIL, ARENAL OBSERVATORY LODGE, LA FORTUNA, ALAJUELA PROVINCE, COSTA RICA, 10/10/2022 - NEW SPECIES# 1,061 TO LIFE LIST
Even though the lighting is very poor, we can ID this hummingbird as a male Blue-throated Goldentail as follows:
- Straight, red bill with black tip that is broad at base
- Greenish crown
- Blue-violet face and throat
- Buffy belly
- Because of the poor, light the tail looks mostly greenish, but you can make out some golden hues
The Blue-throated Goldentail is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,061.
