COLLARED TROGON (ORANGE BELLIED), ARENAL OBSERVATORY LODGE, LA FORTUNA, ALAJUELA PROVINCE, COSTA RICA, 10/10/2022 - NEW SPECIES # 1,060 TO LIFE LIST

   We can ID this trogon as a male Collared Trogon (Orange Bellied) as follows:
  • Metallic green upperparts
  • Blackish face with yellow bill
  • Metallic green breast with white band across the lower breast
  • Orange belly.  This is the Orange Bellied morph of the Collared Trogon.  At one time this was considered a separate species from the Collared Trogon with a red belly.
  • Dark tail with narrow white barring
   The Collared Trogon (Orange Bellied) is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,060.
