TROPICAL SCREECH-OWLS, PARQUE DE PARAISO, PARAISO, CARTAGO, COSTA RICA, 10/2/2022

   We can ID these owls as Tropical Screech-Owls as follows:
  •  Underparts are gray-brown (we can't see upperparts) with many vertical black streaks, with numerous, narrower cross bars, creating a herringbone appearance
  •  Head is gray-brown with crown also having black streaks with herringbone appearance
  •  Face is promanately outlined in black
  • Amber eyes
   The Tropical Screech-Owl is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,043.

BUFFY-CROWNED WOOD-PARTRIDGE, CASA TANGARA DOWII RESERVE, CARTAGO, COSTA RICA, 10/2/2022 - NEW SPECIES #1042 TO LIFE LIST

   We can ID this New World Quail as a Buffy-crowned  Wood-Partridge as follows:
  • Whitish-buff forehead and throat
  • Pinkish bare skin around eye
  • Orange-reddish legs
  • Dark and white striped underparts
  • Brownish upperparts with whitish streaks
   The Buffy-crowned Wood-Partridge is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,042.






FEMALE PURPLE-THROATED MOUNTAIN-GEM, CASA TANGARA DOWII RESERVE, CARTAGO, COSTA RICA, 10/2/2022

    Just after the last photo, I was running to get a photo of a bird.  I fell and wasn't hurt, but my camera fell on me.  The shock to the camera broke it in some way.  So from this photo on, all the photos were taken either by digiscoping with my cell phone or directly with my cell phone.  I would like to thank our birding guide, Ernesto Carman, for his help in taking the digiscoping photos.
