MALE RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD, COLONY FARM REGIONAL PARK. COQUITLAM, BRITISH COLUMBIA, 6/11/2022 - PHOTOGRAPHIC LIFE LIST SPECIES # 1,024

   We can ID this hummingbird as a male Rufous Hummingbird as follows:
  • Straight,smooth bill
  • Almost entirely rufous with white chest
  • White spot in back of dark eye
  • Throat is irredescent and can look from dark to light and various colors depending on light

   The Rufous Hummingbird is a new species to our Photographic Life List,  which now stands at 1,024.



 

WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE, COLONY FARM REGIONAL PARK, PORT COQUITLAM, BRITISH COLUMBIA, 6/11/2022 - PHOTOGRAPHIC LIFE LIST SPECIES # 1023

   We can ID this tyrant flycatcher as a Western Wood-Pewee as follows:
  • Overall gray, with upperparts and head darker gray and underparts and neck lighter gray
  • Two pale wing bars
  • Small, dark bill
  • Dark eye
  • Our birding guide, Mike Klotz was able to hear this bird's call and ID it as a Western Wood-Pewee. We would like to thank Mike for finding this and other species.  He knew where to find them!

   The Western Wood-Pewee is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,023.




















 

BEWICK'S WREN, COLONY FARM REGIONAL PARK, COQUITLAM, BRITISH COLUMBIA, 6/11/2022 - PHOTOGRAPHIC LIFE LIST SPECIES # 1,022

   We can ID this wren as a Bewick's Wren as follows:
  • Brown head with a long, bold white eyebrow (this is a key field mark)
  • Slightly downcurved, long and thin bill
  • White throat and breast
  • Gray belly
  • Brown upperparts
  • You can just make out that the brown tail has black bars
   Bewick's Wren is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,022.

SPOTTED TOWHEE, COLONY FARM REGIONAL PARK, PORT COQUITLAM, BRITISH COLUMBIA, 6/11,2022 - PHOTOGRAPHIC LIFE LIST SPECIES # 1,021

   We can ID this bird as a Spotted Towhee as follows:
  • Dark head and neck
  • Red eye
  • Dark gray upper parts with bright white spots
  • Rufous flanks (we can't see rest of underparts)
  • Small dark bill
   The Sotted Towhee is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,021.
