MALE BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK, COLONY FARM REGIONAL PARK,PORT COQUITLAM, BRITISH COLUMBIA, 6/11/2022, PHOTOGRAPHIC LIFE LIST SPECIES # 1,020

   We can ID this bird as a male Black-headed Grosbeak as follows:

• Black head
• Gray bill which is conical and thick at base
• Orange hind collar
• Black upperparts with two white wing bars
• Orange breast

   The Black-headed Grosbeak is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,020.

 

MALE LAZULI BUNTING, COLONY FARMS REGIONAL PARK,COQUITLAM,BRITISH COLUMBIA, 6/11/2022 - PHOTOGRAPHIC LIFE LIST # 1019

   We can ID this bird as a male Lazuli Bunting as follows:

• Sky-blue head
• Dull orange breast
• White belly
• ln the 5th photo you can just make out the end of a white shoulder patch
• Notched tail

   The Lazuli Bunting is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,019.

 

GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULLS, STANLEY PARK, VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, 6/8/2022 - PHOTOGRAPHIC LIFE LIST SPECIES # 1018

   We can ID these gulls as Glaucous-winged Gulls as follows:

• White head and underparts.
• Pale gray mantle. This differentiates the Glaucous-winged Gull from the Herring Gull and Western Gull, both of which have darker gray mantles.
• Pale gray wingtips, similar in color to the mantle..  This also differentiates the Glaucous-winged Gull from the Herring Gull and most other gulls which have dark wing tips.
• Yellow bill with a red spot ( chicks peck at this spot to simulate regurgitive feeding) near the end of the bill.   
• Pink legs. 

   The Glaucous-winged Gull is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,018.
