   We can ID this oriole as a Spot-breasted Oriole by the black spots on its breast (see second photo).,

YELLOW-CHEVRONED PARAKEET, BREWER PARK,MILLER DRIVE,SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, 3/10/2022, NEW SPECIES # 1,013 ON PHOTOGRAPHIC LIFE LIST

   We can ID this Parakeet as a Yellow-chevroned Parakeet as follows:
  • Overall green
  • Yellow edge on its folded wing.  This Parakeet is very similar to the White-winged Parakeet, but the White-winged Parakeet has a longer yellow and white edge on the folded wing, which extents almost to the tail.
  • Pinkish tinge to bill 
   The Yellow-chevroned Parakeet is native to tropical South America south of the Amazon River basin from central Brazil to southern Bolivia, Paraguay and northern Argentina.  Released and escaped birds have established feral populations in Miami, Florida and Los Angeles and San Francisco, California.

   The Yellow-chevroned Parakeet is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,013.






 


RED-MASKED PARAKEETS, BREWER PARK,MILLER DRIVE,SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA, 3/10/2022 - NEW SPECIES # 1,012 ON PHOTOGRAPHIC LIFE LIST

   We can ID this Parakeet as a Red-masked Parakeet as follows:
  • Overall green
  • Red face and forecrown
  • Large red patch on wing.  This is really obvious when wing is spread, such as in the first photo.
  • Pinkish tinge to bill
   The Red-masked Parakeet is native to southwestern Ecuador and northwestern Peru, where they live in jungle and deciduous forest.  They can also thrive in semiarid regions, as well as in suburban regions.  There are established feral populations in California, Hawaii and Miami, Florida area.

   The Red-masked Parakeet is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,012.
