MOLTING WHITE-FACED IBIS, EAGLE LAKES COMMUNITY PARK,NAPLES,FLORIDA, 4/25/2021
We can ID this Ibis as a White-faced Ibis molting from nonbreeding to breeding plumage as follows:
- Bare patch of pink skin in front of reddish eye. These two field marks ( pink skin and reddish eye) distinguish the White-faced Ibis from the very similar Glossy Ibis.
- The whitish border of breeding plumage around the pink skin is starting to form.
- Long, gray, downward curving bill.
- The grayish neck and head of nonbreeding plumage has not yet molted into breeding plumage.
The White-faced Ibis is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,005.
