CASPIAN TERNS, COMMON TERN, RING-BILLED GULLS & OTHER FRIENDS, WINDERMERE BASIN,HAMILTON,ONTARIO, 6/4/2020

For many of the Terns it is difficult to determine whether they are Caspian Terns or Common Terns. However, this time of year during breeding season, the adult Common Terns have  reddish legs, while Caspian Terns always have black legs.  Also, on the Common Tern the black crown extends down the nape, while it doesn't for the Caspian Tern.  If you see the tern in flight, the Common Tern has a forked tail.
