FEMALE EUROPEAN PIED FLYCATCHER, TAGUS ESTUARY,LISBON,PORTUGAL, 9/29/2019
We can ID this bird as a female European Pied Flycatcher as follows:
- Brown above with distinctive white wing patch
- Tail and primaries are darker brown
- Outer tail feathers are white
- Whitish underparts
The European Pied Flycatcher is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 929.
COMMON WAXBILL, TAGUS ESTUARY,LISBON,PORTUGAL, 9/29/2019
Even though we can't see much of the face or front of this bird, we can ID it as a Common Waxbill as follows:
- You can just make out the red bill and some of the red mask
- Overall grey color
- White neck
- Merlin bird photo ID app identified the bird as a Common Waxbill
The Common Waxbill is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 928.
EURASIAN SPOONBILL, TAGUS ESTUARY,LISBON,PORTUGAL, 9/29/2019
These photos were taken into the sun with the spoonbill bills into the water, so we could not get good photos of the birds or their bills. However, we can still ID these birds as Eurasian Spoonbills as follows:
- Overall white color
- Black legs
- Large bird, with stocky, thickest overall appearance
- Although we could not make out much detail of the bills, we could tell that they were long (left spoonbill in first photo)
- Merlin bird photo ID app and our guide identified this bird as a Eurasian Spoonbill

NONBREEDING COMMON RINGED PLOVER OR RINGED PLOVER, TAGUS ESTUARY,LISBON,PORTUGAL, 9/29/2019
We can ID this plover as a nonbreeding Common Ringed Plover or Ringed Plover as follows:
- Brown cap, white forehead, black mask around eyes and white eyebrow
- Short, black bill
- Orange legs
- Brown-breasted upperparts
- Blackish neckband
- Whitish underparts
The Common Ringed Plover or Ringed Plover is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 926.
