RUFOUS-BREASTED WREN (PHEUGOPEDIUS RUTILUS), LA MESA RD,EL VALLE DE ANTON,COCLE PROVINCE,PANAMA, 5/24/2019

      We can ID this wren as a Rufous-breasted Wren as follows:
  • Black throat and face, speckled with white, that contrasts with bright rufous chest, is distinctive
  • Grey-brown upperparts
  • Brownish-white belly
  • Rufous crown

      The Rufous-breasted Wren is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 870.





BRIGHT-RUMPED ATTILA (ATTILA SPADICEUS), LA MESA RD,EL VALLE DE ANTON,COCLE PROVINCE,PANAMA, 5/24/2019

      We can ID this bird as a Bright-rumped Attila as follows:
  • Olive-green head streaked with black
  • Yellowish throat and breast are streaked darker
  •  Short brown tail
  • What we can see of the wings is dark brown
  • Belly is yellowish near tail

  • Blackish upperparts
  • Russet-orange crown
  • Blackish tail
  • Short thick bill

      We can ID this bird as a Plain Xenops as follows:
  • Brown head with buff supercilium and conspicuous white malar stripe
  • Short wedge-shaped bill with upturned lower mandible
  • Rufous tail 
  • Brownish overall, with no streaks

SILVER-THROATED TANAGER (TANGARA ICTEROCEPHALA), LA MESA RD,EL VALLE DE ANTON,COCLE PROVINCE,PANAMA, 5/24/2019

      We can ID this Tanager as a Silver-throated Tanager as follows:
  • Yellow underparts and head. Underparts look a bit dirty, typical of this Tanager.
  • Silvery throat bordered by black moustachial stripe
  • Greenish wing feathers, as much as we can see
