YELLOW-LORED PARROT IN FLIGHT, HOCHOB MAYAN RUINS, CAMPECHE,MEXICO, 11/6/2018

      We can ID this parrot as a Yellow-lored Parrot (also known as Yellow-lored Amazon, Yucatan Parrot and Yucatan Amazon) as follows:
  • Yellow bill and lores
  • Lower back is green, with red primary coverts
  • Red around eyes (you can just make the red out if you look closely)
  • Relatively short, blunt-tipped tail
      The Yellow-lored Parrot is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 819.

FEMALE BLACK-COWLED ORIOLE, SAN SIMON RD,YUCATAN,MEXICO, 11/6/2018

      We can ID this Oriole as a female Black-cowled Oriole as follows:
  • Black face and foreneck
  • We can only see a very small bit of the underparts, but what we can see is yellow
  • Black wings
  • Yellow cap, back and nape
  • Very indistinct yellow epaulets
  • Small, dark, slightly downcurved bill
      The Black-cowled Oriole is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 818.
