RUFOUS-BROWED PEPPERSHRIKE, UXMAL RESORT MAYA,UXMAL,YUCATAN,MEXICO, 11/5/2018

      We can ID this video as a Rufous-browed Peppershrike as follows:
  • Small, stout bill
  • Grey head
  • Rufous eyebrow - you can see this in the third photo
  • Pinkish feet - you can see this in the last photo
      The Rufous-browed Peppershrike is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 817.

MALE LINEATED WOODPECKER, UXMAL RESORT MAYA,UXMAL,YUCATAN,MEXICO, 11/5/2018

      We can ID this woodpecker as a male Lineated Woodpecker as follows:
  • Red crest
  • White line from the base of bill, down the neck and shoulders
  • Black wings
  • Whitish underparts, heavily bared with black
  • Red line from bill to throat and red forehead indicates an adult male
  • Pale bill - there are pale billed individuals, although black is more common
      The Lineated Woodpecker is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 816.






 








MALE ROSE-THROATED BECARD, UXMAL RESORT MAYA,UXMAL,YUCATAN,MEXICO, 11/5/2018

      We can ID this bird as a male Rose-throated Becard as follows:
  • Red neck bib - this is its most distinguishing characteristic
  • Gray underparts
  • Black crown
        The Rose-throated Becard is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 815.




MALE YUCATAN WOODPECKER, UXMAL RESORT MAYA,UXMAL,YUCATAN,MEXICO, 11/5/2018

      We can ID this woodpecker as a  Yucatan Woodpecker as follows:
  • Red cap from eye to nape
  • Black and white barring on back, wings and tail. The white barring is thicker than in the very similar Golden-fronted Woodpecker (see post of Golden-fronted Woodpecker)
  •  Light grey on face and underparts
  • Yellow at the bill base (you can just make this out in first photo)
  • The bill is relatively short compared to the bill of the Golden-fronted Woodpecker (see post of Golden-fronted Woodpecker)
        The Yucatan Woodpecker is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 814.
