      We can ID this bird as an Altamira Oriole as follows:
  • Single thick white wingbar and white wing spots on black wings (this can be seen in the last photo)
  • Orange epaulet - this distinguishes this species from the Hooded Oriole, which has a white epaulet
  • Orange underparts
  • Black back
  • Black lores that connect to the black throat but by a much narrower connection than on the very similar Hooded Oriole
  • Long black tail
  • Stout and pointed black bill
       The Altamira Oriole is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 813.

      We can ID this bird as a Yucatan Wren as follows:
  • Whitish face with a wide dark eye-stripe and a greyish brown crown
  • Dark cheek stripe
  • Whitish underparts with black barring
  • Dark and white barring on upperparts
  • Dark and white barring on tail
       The Yucatan Wren is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 812.

LESSER YELLOW-HEADED VULTURE IN FLIGHT, RIO LAGARTOS BIOSPHERE RESERVE,YUCATAN,MEXICO, 11/3/2018

   We can ID this raptor as a Lesser Yellow-Headed Vulture as follows:
  • Pale orange head and neck with darker crown
  • Brownish-belack body plumage
  • Thick, rounded bill, hooked at end
       The Lesser Yellow-Headed Vulture is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 811.
