Because of the distance and lighting we could not discern colors and some features of the bird very well in the photo. However, we can still ID this shorebird as a Bristle-thighed Curlew by its large size and shape, long downcurved bill, dark eye-line, white eyebrow and location. The curlew most similar to the Bristle-thighed Curlew is the Whimbrel, which is a rare visitor to Hawaii.
