SCALY-BREASTED LORIKEET, CAIRNS, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA

   This parrot was in the same tree  (outside McDonald's) in Cairns that the Rainbow Lorikeet in the previous post was on.  We can ID this parrot as a Scaly-breasted Lorikeet by its plain green head, red bill, green underparts and yellow markings on underparts. 

   The Scaly-breasted Lorikeet is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 705.

RAINBOW LORIKEET, CAIRNS, QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA

   This bird was on a tree outside McDonald's in Cairns.  This is a hotspot for Lorikeets.   We can ID this parrot as a Rainbow Lorikeets by its deep blue head, deep green upperparts, orange-red breast and bright red bill.

   The Rainbow Lorikeet is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 704.

GREY TEAL, NYLETA WETLANDS, HASTIES SWAMP NATIONAL PARK, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA

   We can ID this duck as a Australian Grey Teal by its almost all grey-brown plumage, contrast between dark crown and much paler face and throat (this differentiates it from the female Chestnut Teal) and feathers edged in buff,  except at the rump.

   The Grey Teal is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 703.

WHITE-NECKED HERON, NYLETA WETLANDS, HASTIES SWAMP NATIONAL PARK, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA

   We can ID this heron as a White-necked Heron by its white neck with distinctive black spots in the center of the lower foreneck and throat, slate gray upperparts and underparts and black bill, 

   The White-necked Heron is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 702.
