SNOWY EGRET AT EAGLE LAKES COMMUNITY PARK

NORTHERN CARDINAL AT EAGLE LAKES COMMUNITY PARK

BIRDING AT EAGLE LAKES COMMUNITY PARK: BLACK-NECKED STILT

During the fall and winter months Eagle Lakes Community Park is one of the best birding hotspots in the Naples, Florida area.  We had never actually been at the park this time of year, so we thought we would try it out.  Even this time of year it's still a good birding hotspot.
We sighted and photographed a Black-necked Stilt.  It is a distinctive bird, easy to recognize:
  • Distinctive black and whte pattern: black above & white below
  • Very long red legs
  • Long black bill

SUNSET OVER NAPLES PIER

Today was a perfect day in Naples for a beautiful sunset.  It rained in the afternoon and stopped raining before sunset.  Then much of the clouds, but not all cleared away.  Here are the photos of the sunset from a beach in Naples with a view of the Naples Pier:

PHOTOS OF THE DAY: DRAGONFLY

Sharon and I traveled from Canada to Naples, FL today.  My son's wedding is this coming Saturday.   In the afternoon we went birding at Eagle Lakes Community Park and Crayton Cove.  In following blogs we will give photos of birds we sighted.  While walking we came across a beautiful dragonfly who seemed to pose for us:

TRUMPETER SWAN - USGS/CANADIAN WILDLIFE SERVICE CERTIFICATES OF APPRECIATION

Recently received Certificates of Appreciation from the USGS/Canadian Wildlife Service for reporting tagged Trumpeter Swans to the USGS Bird Banding Laboratory.  This can be easily done online and I believe is a worthwhile endeavor.  Below are photos of the tagged Trumpeter Swans and the certificates.

The Trumpeter Swan sighted on May 7 was sighted at the beach at Bluffers Park in Scarborough Bluffs (Toronto), ON.  The one sighted on May 22 was seen along the Grindstone Marshes Trail at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington, ON.

CEDAR WAXWING

Here is a Cedar Waxwing looking straight at the camera, plus two other photos showing some of the field markings.  The photos were taken at Lake Wilcox Park in Richmond Hill, ON.  Note the following for I.D.:
  • Black mask with white outline
  • Yellow-tipped tail
  • Yellow wash on belly
  • Small red spot on wing - you can see this on last photo
  • Cinnamon crest
