WOOLY BEAR (WOOLY WORM) CATERPILLAR, TOMMY THOMPSON PARK, TORONTO, ONTARIO, 9/29/2024

The Woolly Bear or Woolly Worm caterpillar is the larva for the Isabella Tiger Moth.  This caterpillar hibernates during the winter.  Woolly Bears produce a kind of antifreeze that protects their organs and soft tissue, while the rest of its body freezes solid.  They can survive extremely low temperatures, as low as  -66 degrees Celsius.
