WHITE-TAILED EAGLE, OOSTVAARDERSPLASSEN, FLEVOLAND, NETHERLANDS, 7/23/2024 - NEW LIFE SPECIES

Even though these birds of prey were quite a distance away and the photos (taken by digiscoping) are somewhat indistinct we can ID the bird on the lower branch as an adult White-tailed Eagle (also called Sea Eagle) as follows:
  • Pale head and neck with yellow bill.  You can make out the yellow bill the best in the first and last photos.
  • Dark body and wings
  • White tail.  You can make out the white tail the best in the third photo.
  • The Oostvaardersplassen is a known location of White-tailed Eagle breeding pairs.
The White-tailed Eagle is a new species to our ebird Photographic Life List.  Our ebird Life List now stands at 1,155.
