   We can ID this bird as a Gray Wagtail as follows:
  • Habitat: During breeding season (April to July) the Gray Wagtail places its nest near fast running streams or rivers and thus can be seen on the rocks in the stream.
  • Gray head and back
  • Black wings with white streaks
  • Yellow vent
  • Long black tail
   The Gray Wagtail is a new species to our ebird Photographic Life List.

  • Gray head with white throat
  • Brownish back with rufous wings
  • Dark eye with white eyering
  •  Buff underparts

   We can ID this Wren as a Eurasian Wren as follows:
  • Very small size
  • It is the only Wren species found in the Old World
  • Very short tail, which it is holding erect

  • Sharp, pointy bill

  • Short, dark bill
  • Yellowish underparts with a dark line down the abdomen
  • Face is white with a light blue tinge
  • Black line passing through eye

COMMON WOOD-PIGEON, CHARLOTTE SQUARE & SURROUNDING AREA, EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND, UK, 7/16/2024 - NEW LIFE SPECIES

   We can ID this pigeon as a Common Wood-Pigeon as follows:
  • Large, bulky and mostly gray
  • Large, white neck patch
  • White patches along edge of wings
  • Orange-red bill with off-white cere at base of upper mandible
  • Undertail tipped in black
   The Common Wood-Pigeon is a new species to our ebird Photographic Life List.  Our ebird Life List now stands at 1,143.
