We can ID this dove as a Zenaida Dove as follows:
- Very similar to the Mourning Dove, but is smaller and has a shorter, square-tipped tail rather than the long, pointed tail of the Mourning Dove.
- Overall grayish-brown upper parts.
- Large blue spot on side of neck.
- Black splotches on the folded wing.
- Short, black streak in back of the eye, with a longer black streak at the base of the cheek.
The Zenaida Dove breeds throughout the Caribbean and the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula.
