BAND-TAILED PIGEON, RIO HONDO COLLEGE, WHITTIER, LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, 12/20/2023 - NEW LIFE SPECIES

We can ID this pigeon as a Band-tailed Pigeon as follows:
  • Yellow bill with black tip.  This is unique among pigeons.
  • Overall color that we can see is pale gray, with what looks like a lavender wash on its chest and belly.  Thus this pigeon may be a juvenile Band-tailed Pigeon.
  • Red eyes (you can just make out the red color in the second photo).
  • Long gray tail
The Band-tailed Pigeon is a new species to our Photographic Life List.  Our ebird Life List now stands at 1,114.
