LARGE-BILLED TERN, LELY RESORT ENTRANCE AT US 41, NAPLES FLORIDA, 11/1/2023 - NEW LIFE SPECIES

   We can ID this tern as a Large-billed Tern as follows:
  • Large, yellow bill with black tip
  • Black crown and ear coverts
  • Black nape (this can be seen in the second photo)
  • Gray upperparts
  • White underparts
  • Yellow legs
  • Short tail
   The Large-billed Tern is found in most of South America (east of the Andes and north of the Pampas).  It has occurred as a vagrant in Aruba, Bermuda, Panama and the United States.  Its natural habitats are rivers and freshwater lakes.

   The Large-billed Tern is a new species to our Photographic Life List.  Our ebird Life List now stands at 1,083.
