MALE YELLOW-SHAFTED NORTHERN FLICKER, COLONEL SAMUEL SMITH PARKk ETOBICOKE, TORONTO, ONTARIO, 6/26/2023

   In both photos you can see a very small portion of the yellow-shaft of this subspecies of the  Northern Flicker.  It is the very small yellow patch on the wings of the flicker just above its flank. 

   There are two subspecies of the Northern Flicker, the Red-shafted flicker of  western North America and the Yellow-shafted flicker of the east and far north.
