We can ID this swift as an Antillean Palm Swift as follows:
- Merlin identified the bird in both photos as an Antilllean Palm Swift
- Small size. Some of the swifts came close enough that we could estimate their size as being about 3-4" long
- Flying behavior: Very rapid and gliding between flapping spurts. Darted in and out of thatched roofs on buildings.
- Long length of wings compared to small body
- White belly
The Antilllean Palm Swift is a new species to our Photographic Life List. Our ebird Life List now stands at 1,074.
