WHITE WAGTAIL, LAKE ELBERTA PARK, N LAKE BRANFORD RD, TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA, 1/10/2023 - NEW SPECIES TO LIFE LIST # 1,071

 We can ID this bird as a White Wagtail as follows:
  • Overall a combination of black, white and gray
  • Black from mid-crown to nape
  • Dark stripe through eye from bill to side of neck
  • Black from sides of lower neck to breasts; rest of underparts is white
  • Mostly gray upperparts with two wide wingbars, one short and one long
  • Long tail
   The White Wagtail is a very rare vagrant to Florida.  It is a common bird in Europe, Asia and northern Africa.  There are small numbers in the Western perimeter of Alaska in the Bering Strait region and it is rare in the Western Aleutian islands.  The White Wagtail was first sighted at Lake Elberta on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2022.

   The White Wagtail is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,071.
