PELAGIC CORMORANT IN FLIGHT & IN BREEDING PLUMAGE CARRYING NESTING MATERIAL, HADDEN & VANIER PARK, VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, 6/12/2022 - PHOTOGRAPHIC LIFE LIST SPECIES # 1,031

   We can ID this cormorant as a Pelagic Cormorant as follows:
  • Iridescent dark and black with areas of purplish iridescence.
  • Large bright white patch near rump.  This only occurs during the summer breeding season and differentiates the Pelagic Cormorant from the Double-crested Cormorant during breeding season.
  • Thin, pale bill
   The Pelagic Cormorant is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 1,031.
