During our regular Tuesday morning birding walk at the Naples Botanical Garden, as we arrived at the birding tower, we saw the area near it where the cattails were clearcut by the garden. This was the area we periodically saw American Bitterns and also a Sora. Many birders were extremely upset at this. According to the garden the cattails were cut down because eventually they would spread throughout the lake.
We did see many birds foraging in the former catrail area, including the following species:
- Great Egret
- Wood Stork
- White Ibis
- Little Blue Heron
- Tricolored Heron
- Green Heron
