We can ID this duck as a male Ferruginous Duck (at least the duck in the first two photos) as follows:
- Chestnut head, neck and breast with a diffuse black ring around the neck
- Dark upperparts with brownish flanks
- Conspicuous white eye
- Blue-grey bill that fades towards light grey towards tip, with small black tip (you can see black tip in second photo)
- Conspicuous white patch at rear
The Ferruginous Duck is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 976.
