MALE FERRUGINOUS DUCKS, SCHINIAS NATIONAL PARK,MARATHON,ATTICA REGION,GREECE, 10/10/2019
We can ID this duck as a male Ferruginous Duck (at least the duck in the first two photos) as follows:
- Chestnut head, neck and breast with a diffuse black ring around the neck
- Dark upperparts with brownish flanks
- Conspicuous white eye
- Blue-grey bill that fades towards light grey towards tip, with small black tip (you can see black tip in second photo)
- Conspicuous white patch at rear
The Ferruginous Duck is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 976.
CETTI'S WARBLER, SCHINIAS NATIONAL PARK,MARATHON,ATTICA REGION,GREECE, 10/10/2019
We can ID this bird as a Cetti's Warbler as follows:
- Brown upperparts
- Brown, rounded head with a narrow pale supercilium over black eye, dark eyestripe and white broken eyering
- Whitish to pale grey underparts
- Broad, brown tail
Cetti's Warbler is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 975.
FEMALE EURASIAN SPARROWHAWK IN FLIGHT, SCHINIAS NATIONAL PARK,MARATHON,ATTICA REGION,GREECE, 10/10/2019
- Greyish underparts and head
- Short, broad wings
- The bird has the "no" neck look of a typical Eurasian Sparrowhawk in flight
- Underwing pattern from a long distance: barred dull orangey and grey
The Eurasian Sparrowhawk is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 974.
FEMALE WHINCHAT, OROPOS,ATTICA REGION,GREECE, 10/10/2019
We can ID this bird as a female Whinchat as follows:
- Brownish head with distinctive buffy supercilium, bold dark eyestripe and streaked cap
- Throat and breast are orangish
- Whitish belly
- As much as we can see of the wings are brownish
- Black legs and bill
The Whinchat is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 973.
