We can ID this rail as a Common or Eurasian Moorhen (Gallinula chloropus) as follows:
- Red bill with yellow tip
- Red frontal shield that has a rounded top and fairly parallel sides
- Dark plumage (slate gray and brown) with white patches on tail and white streaks along flanks
The Common Moorhen is distributed across many parts of the Old World. Is is not found in the polar regions or many tropical rainforests.
The Common Moorhen is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 920A.
