FEMALE CROWNED WOODNYMPH (THALURANIA COLOMBICA), LA MESA RD,EL VALLE DE ANTON,COCLE PROVINCE,PANAMA, 5/24/2019

       Even though the colors of this hummingbird do not show in these photos, we can ID it as a female Crowned Woodnymph as follows:

  • The Merlin photo app did ID this hummingbird as a Crowned Woodnymph
  • We were in the range of the Crowned Woodnymph (the Violet-crowned Woodnymph subspecies)
  • Fairly long, slightly downcurved  bill
  • Whitish throat of the female
  • White tipped tail of female (see second photo)

      The Crowned Woodnymph is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 861.
