CARIBBEAN ELAENIA, QUEEN ELIZABETH II BOTANIC PARK,GRAND CAYMAN, 2/28/2019

      We can ID this Flycatcher as a Caribbean Elaenia as follows:
  • Upperparts brownish-olive
  • Two whitish wingbars
  • Throat and breast pale gray
  • Lower belly has yellowish wash
  • Pinkish lower mandible of bill
  • Whitish crown patch (you can see this in fourth photo)
  • Crest raises when agitated (see first photo)
  • Common throughout Cayman Islands
  • Does not have obvious spectacles as does the similar Yellow-bellied Elaenia

    The Caribbean Elaenia is a new species to our Photographic Life List,which now stands at 846.
