We can ID this woodpecker as a male Lineated Woodpecker as follows:
- Red crest
- White line from the base of bill, down the neck and shoulders
- Black wings
- Whitish underparts, heavily bared with black
- Red line from bill to throat and red forehead indicates an adult male
- Pale bill - there are pale billed individuals, although black is more common
The Lineated Woodpecker is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 816.
