ALTAMIRA ORIOLE, HOTEL MAYALAND,CHICHEN ITZA,YUCATAN,MEXICO, 11/4/2018

We can ID this bird as an Altamira Oriole as follows:
  • Single thick white wingbar and white wing spots on black wings (this can be seen in the last photo)
  • Orange epaulet - this distinguishes this species from the Hooded Oriole, which has a white epaulet
  • Orange underparts
  • Black back
  • Black lores that connect to the black throat but by a much narrower connection than on the very similar Hooded Oriole
  • Long black tail
  • Stout and pointed black bill
The Altamira Oriole is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 813.
