EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE, COLONEL SAMUEL SMITH PARK,ETIBICOKE,TORONTO,ON, 10/6/18

         We can ID this tyrant flycatcher as an Eastern Wood-Pewee by its following characteristics:

• Grayish upperparts with darker gray on wings, cap and tail
• Light underparts (from the small amount we can see)
• Dark head with weak eyerings (the weak eyerings differentiate it from the similar Least Flycatcher, which has bold white eyerings)
• Two clearly defined  whitish wingbars (the clearly defined wingbars differentiate it from the similar Eastern Phoebe - see previous post)
• This bird did not bob its tail, which also distinguishes it from the Eastern Phoebe, which does bob it's tail
• Notched tail
• Slim and pointed appearance of the wing tips.
  
  The Easter Wood-Pewee breeds in the deciduous, mixed woods or pine plantations in eastern North America.  They migrate to Central America and the Andes region of northern South America.  They feed on insects and other arthopods.
  
  The Eastern Wood-Pewee is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 799.
