BLUE-CHEEKED BEE-EATER, CHOBE RIVER, BOTSWANA

   We can ID this bird as a Blue-cheeked Bee-eater by its green upperparts, blue underparts, green cap and rufous throat.
   The Blue-cheeked Bee-eater is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 422.



BREEDING COLLARED PRATINCOLE, CHOBE RIVER, BOTSWANA

   We can ID this bird as a breeding Collared Pratincole by its pale buffy-yellow throat, thinly edged in black; tail extending beyond wing tips; white eyering and gradual merging of grey breast into white belly.
   The Collared Pratincole is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 421.

GOLIATH HERON, CHOBE RIVER, BOTSWANA

   We can ID this heron as an adult Goliath Heron by its large size (it is the largest heron in the world), large bill and chestnut head and neck.




JUVENILE GOLIATH HERON, CHOBE NATIONAL PARK, BOTSWANA

   We can ID this heron as a juvenile Goliath Heron by gray upperparts; white foreneck, chest, belly and underwing coverts and grey legs.
   The Goliath Heron is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 420.



CRESTED BARBET, CHOBE NATIONAL PARK, BOTSWANA

   We can ID this bird as a Crested Barbet by its yellowish face, yellowish underparts with streaks, broad black breast band with white spots and black crest.


HAMERKOP, CHOBE NATIONAL PARK, BOTSWANA

   We can ID this bird by its unmistakable hammer-shaped profile of head and bill and overall dark brown coloration.
   The Hamerkop is a new species to our Photographic Life List, which now stands at 419.
