MALE NORTHERN SHOVELER, CRANBERRY MARSH, LYNDE SHORES CONSERVATION AREA, WHITBY, ON
We can ID this duck as a male Northern Shoveler by its rufous flanks and belly, its white breast and its large bill. This is a " dabbling" duck, as can be seen in the second photo, where it has upended itself to reach deeper food. It rarely dives.
